Some objects carry a presence that transcends their original purpose. At Modern Nomad Home, our curated collection of African art celebrates sculptural form, traditional craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of objects made by hand.

From carved wooden stools and architectural elements to bronze sculptures, decorative masks, and woven baskets, our evolving assortment reflects the remarkable diversity of artistic traditions across the African continent. Each piece is selected for its distinctive materials, craftsmanship, and ability to bring character and depth to a collected interior.

African Sculptures, Traditional Masks & Bronze Art

African artistic traditions encompass an extraordinary range of materials, techniques, and cultural expressions. Our collection brings together sculptural objects whose forms and details invite closer appreciation.

Discover bronze portrait busts, decorative masks, carved wooden architectural pieces, and other works distinguished by their expressive silhouettes and richly textured surfaces. Where known, we identify specific cultural and geographic origins, including Yoruba, Songye, and Senufo traditions, recognizing that each represents its own distinct artistic heritage.

Whether displayed on a pedestal, console, or bookshelf, these objects offer a compelling dialogue between historical craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Explore our broader Art & Decor collection for additional one-of-a-kind objects and decorative discoveries.

African Wood Carvings, Handcrafted Stools & Functional Art

Some of the most captivating works blur the boundary between utility and sculpture. A hand-carved wooden stool, for example, can be appreciated as much for its proportions, patina, and craftsmanship as for its original function.

Our selection includes carved wood objects, vintage stools, woven baskets, and architectural elements that reveal the beauty of natural materials and traditional making techniques.

Signs of age, surface variations, and historical repairs can add to the character of vintage pieces, offering visible evidence of their use and passage through time.

Style a sculptural object alongside vessels from our Vintage Pottery or Asian Pottery collections, or introduce contrast with contemporary pieces from Wall Art.

Frequently Asked Questions About African Art

What types of African art does Modern Nomad Home carry?

Our changing selection includes carved wooden objects, decorative masks, bronze sculptures, vintage stools, woven baskets, and architectural elements. Individual pieces vary in origin, age, materials, and availability.

What is the difference between African art and African artifacts?

African art is a broad term encompassing artistic expression across many cultures and traditions. An artifact is an object made or used by people, which may have practical, cultural, historical, or artistic significance. Some objects can be considered both.

How can I incorporate African sculptures into a contemporary interior?

A sculptural wooden stool can anchor a vignette, while a bronze bust or decorative mask adds dimension to a shelf or console. Pairing older objects with contemporary furniture, pottery, and art creates a layered space without relying on a single design style.
